Following months of preparation, including test track days and the unveiling of their newly wrapped Citroën C1, the team took to the Brands Hatch Indy circuit alongside experienced drivers and fellow student teams.
The weekend presented early challenges when the car left the track during the opening practice session due to a steering column issue. Demonstrating resilience and teamwork, students worked quickly to repair the damage, returning to the track later that day with support from fellow competitors, Boston College Racing.
Despite limited track time in a highly competitive qualifying session featuring 41 cars, WFC Racing secured a strong mid-grid position. The team went on to deliver a composed performance across the weekend’s races, finishing 15th overall in the first race.

Building on this momentum, WFC Racing achieved a top 10 finish in Sunday’s race, placing 10th out of 28 in the CityCar Cup and 5th in the Student Motorsport Championship standings. Driver Harry Sutton also recorded the third fastest lap of the race and was the top-performing rookie.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, engineering student, Jason Taylor, said:
“We’re incredibly proud of what we achieved this weekend. It’s been a huge learning experience for the whole team, and to secure a top 10 finish in our first race is a fantastic result. We’re looking forward to building on this at the next round.”

The team now turns its focus to the next stage of the championship at Snetterton on 9–10 May.
John Paul ‘JP’ Latham, founder of the Student Motorsport Championship, commented:
“As we launch our fifth season with our largest grid to date, it’s incredibly rewarding to see more educational bodies than ever before engaging ever more students with the project, alongside the introduction of six complete novice drivers who are beginning their journey with us.”
WFC Racing’s debut highlights the College’s commitment to providing real-world, industry-led experiences that prepare students for careers in the automotive and engineering sectors.

Prospective students interested in Automotive and Engineering courses can apply now for a September start, or attend the College’s Open Event on Wednesday 6 May, 4pm – 7pm, to find out more.
